Deannie Sullivan-Fraser, whose writing focuses mainly on children, is the author of a family musical, Time Shadows. One of the songs from this production was recorded for Sesame Street, while two others were recorded by the Ontario group, Arane.
Deannie has worked as an associate producer, production assistant and researcher for several CBC productions. She has also written articles for The Herald Chronicle, The Daily News and other publications.

Johnny and the Gipsy Moth
This picture story book tells the delightful tale of Johnny who moves with his family from St. John’s to Grand Falls. He tries to make friends with some of the local children, but they make fun of him and his "fancy" ways. The mailman stops their teasing when he arrives with a package for Johnny’s father.
From the package, Johnny’s father shows him a picture of a type of bi-plane called the Gipsy Moth, which is a player in the beginning of Newfoundland’s aviation history. Johnny also receives a white scarf and the promise of a surprise, which turns out to be quite a thrill.
Besides being an exciting story to read aloud, this book is a wonderful starting point for anyone who would like to introduce children to the early history of aviation in Newfoundland. It will make a terrific addition to any collection of children’s books about the history and culture of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Johnny and the Gipsy Moth also stands out because it explores other parts of Newfoundland history and culture other than those related to the sea and outports. It helps to round out the range of children’s books available on different aspects of provincial history.
