Uncle Ben’s Bistro Express wholegrain brown rice is an excellent base to use for preparing easy and healthy vegetarian or vegan dishes after a long day of work or school. It is also hearty and comforting during the colder months, especially after a day of outside activities.

Uncle Ben’s Bistro Express Wholegrain Brown Rice

According to the package, this pre-cooked brown rice:

  • does not contain any preservatives.
  • does not contain any artificial colors or preservatives.
  • is low in sodium.
  • does not contain any cholesterol.
  • does not contain any trans fat and is low in overall fat.
  • is a source of fiber, protein and iron.

Uncle Ben’s Bistro Express Wholegrain Brown Rice and Vegetables

It is very easy to create a nutritious meal using this product and a few simple ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 cups cut up vegetables (These can be any favorites. Broccoli, cauliflower, sweet peppers, zucchini, mushrooms and onion work well. Crushed garlic can also be added.)
  • 1 package Uncle Ben’s® Bistro Express™® brown rice
  • salt and pepper to taste

Steps

  1. The vegetables are sautéed in the oil in a large skillet to a preferred crispness.
  2. The package of brown rice is added to the cooked vegetables. The pouch of rice should be kneaded gently to loosen any clumps of rice.
  3. The vegetables and rice are mixed together.
  4. The dish is seasoned to taste.

Note: The amount of vegetables can be increased or decreased and two packages of rice can be used if more is needed.

This dish can be served with some favorite bread or rolls and a favorite sauce. It is hearty and filling, especially on a chilly day.

Uncle Ben’s Bistro Express Wholegrain Brown Rice and Lentils

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 cup lentils
  • 1 small onion (chopped)
  • 1 clove crushed garlic
  • 1 package Uncle Ben’s® Bistro Express™® brown rice
  • salt and pepper to taste.

Steps

  1. The lentils are cooked in a small amount of water until tender.
  2. The onion and garlic are sautéed in the oil in a large skillet.
  3. The lentils are drained and added to the onion and garlic in the skillet.
  4. The package of brown rice is added to the skillet. The package of rice should be kneaded gently to loosen any clumps of rice.
  5. All ingredients are mixed together and seasoned to taste with salt and pepper.

This dish can be altered to suit individual preferences. It is great served with bread or rolls or used to stuff tortillas. Canned vegetables can also be added to suit personal taste. This is another hearty and filling meal for a cold day.
